*La brune et moi* - a play on the French
title for the American 50s rock 'n' roll film The Girl Can't Help It (La
blonde et moi) - was shot in one week, on a Saturday. Like it's American
counterpart, the story is a thin prop for the rockin' performances.

The film stars scenester Anoushka and actor Pierre Clementi (*The Conformist
*, *Belle de Jour*) and features the following bands on the soundtrack: Ici
Paris, Artefact, Astroflash, Edith Nylon, The Questions, The Party, Marquis

Japanese cuties, Kiiii, are touring the USA!!

My darling friend Sheila B of Cha Cha Charming Magazine turned me onto this band from Japan called Kiiii about a year ago. Kiiii consists of two Japanese girlz, Utako Tayama (vox) and Reiko Tada (drums). Their music is a playful mush of sounds, bop-trot beats, and silly audio clips from cartoons. Singing things like "No more monkeys jumping on the bed" in their song, 4 Little Joy (remix) and "take me to the Disney Land" in their song, The World According To Corp. I've never seen them live, but from the songs I have heard and just for the fact that they are Japanese, I'm sure they will be ton's o fun live!

The Britpop group, Zoé, from Mexico, is coming to NYC on March 11th and 12th the shows are FREE!!

***THESE SHOWS ARE FREE BUT YOU MUST HAVE A PRINT-OUT FROM THE FOLKS AT JACK DANIEL'S WHO ARE PUTTING IT ON. CLICK HERE FOR YOUR TICKETS AND SHOW UP AS EARLY, 'CAUSE IT'S FIRST COME FIRST SERVE***

If you love Britpop and The Cure, you are bound to fall in LUV with Zoé. If you’re not familiar with these boys, think britpop, but britpop from Mexico. Sung in English and Spanish, which my friends over at NYREmezcla.com and I both agree that they could be one of the first rock en español bands to truly make the crossover into the "anglo" market.

Last time they were in New York, they put on an excellent show, and Nacotheque hosted the official after party for them at the all famous rock n' roll bar, Niagara, in the East Village. Memory Man (Zo
é) guest DJed and everyone got super trashed while dancing all night!

Zoé's first show will be on Sunday, March 11th at D'Antigua and the second show will be on Monday, at SOB's where Nacotheque will be hosting the official after party at Luke and Leroy!!

Bol•ly•wood, n. [Humorous blend of the names of Bombay and Hollywood.]

1. The Indian film industry, based in Bombay; Bombay regarded as the base of this industry.

Bollywood is shorthand for the Hindi-language film industry centered in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India. It is the world's largest, yearly churning out hundreds of 3-hour musical epics that also drive South Asia's pop music industry. To the current generation of South Asian club-goers, Bollywood is synonymous with the 1970s golden age of masala films. This decade produced blockbusters like Don and Sholay (which still holds the record for most-viewed film ever made) not to mention "some of the fattest funk tunes that ever pimp-rolled their way down Music Street, Bombay."

Yesterday I bought myself a Vintage 1960's Raleigh Bicycle that's a bit of a fixer upper, but I'm looking forward to fixing it up! Since last summer, I've been looking for a bicycle like this one and I finally got one:)

I've been in search of a unique bicycle basket and I found one that I really hope will be available to order by April '07 (much thanx to OhJoy.blogs.com posting). Designed by Marie-Louise Gustafsson, this basket is made of hard plastic and comes in three colors, green, white, and was inspired by Swedish crochet tablecloths. It even has a name, CARRIE! Ugh, so cute! I think I'm going to keep my bike the color it is so the color that'll prolly look best is green or black for the basket.

Speaking of things that make me happy today, I am excited to tune into East Village Radio today (Sunday, March 4th) to listen to my friend Melody Nelson's DJ debut on East Village Radio from 4 to 6pm EST. This will hopefully be the first of a weekly show (final slot TBD). The show will be all french pop and she'll be spinning everything yé-yé, oldies, chanteuses, 70's party jams and classic 80's pop/rock. EVR is an internet radio station, so anyone in the world with a computer and an internet connection can listen to its live streaming. The show will be archived so if you miss it, you can always listen to it later!

María Félix
With Salma Hayek's ABC hit Ugly Betty poised to win a Golden Globe or two, and a host of Mexican directors including Children of Men's Alfonso Cuarón and Babel's Alejandro González Iñárritu in the spotlight, it's only fitting that the country's first female movie star, María Félix, is back on the pop culture radar. The actress's femme fatale locks, assertive brows, dark eyes, and tiny waist made her a national treasure from the forties on. They would seem to have had Hollywood written all over them, too. But despite making over 45 films (one with Luis Buñuel), "La Doña," as she was called after her 1943 role in Doña Bárbara, never became as famous north of the border. Blame it on her refusal to learn English.

An unrepentant diva, Félix had a penchant for collecting husbands (four, officially) and lovers (Diego Rivera, for one) that was only surpassed by her love of jewelry. The pièce de résistance of a collection Cartier released in her honor last year is an emerald-and-diamond-encrusted gold necklace modeled after one particularly famous commission. She is reported to have stalked into the Paris boutique with a baby crocodile in tow and asked the stunned jewelers to replicate the reptile in gems, stipulating, no less, that the piece be done to scale. Now, her flamboyant style and beauty—Egypt's King Farouk allegedly promised her Nefertiti's crown for one night together—have inspired a new book, María Félix La Doña, out next month from Assouline.

ZIGMAT tonight @ Pianos!!

This Disco pop-rockers, Zigmat will be performing at Pianos tonight!! I think the bands main mamacita, Monica Rodriguez's voice is a mixture of Nirmala Basnayake (Controller Controller) and early Emily Haines (Metric), and it's great! Actually, the song Glowstick has a bit of the same taste as Metric's song Dead Disco...makes you wanna dance in the middle of the room or just stand in the corner watching others dance.

Go check em' out cause they're super fun live! Expect lots of jumping around and glamtastique makeup on Monica's lovely face!!

Happy new year!! Feliz anio nuevo!! It's a brand new year and I'm feeling optimistic:) Today was a happy day with the sunlight out and a smile on my face. I wanted to share three videos that make dance in my pants! The first one is of a dancing, singing gummy bear who sings in Dutch, French, English and one more! You can listen to different of the versions and remixes on the website. I think this video is a more sophisticated version of the dancing hampster song that was all the rage a few years ago. Lets see if it get to the dancing with Ally McBeal cameo on TV...

Gummy Bear Website

Gummy Bear Dance

(English version)

Quiero Club
The second music video that I just can't stop listening to is by an indie pop group from Mexico, called Quiero Club (Happy-Fi Records). The song is called "No Coke". I think they are talking about all kinds of Coke (the stuff you drink and the stuff you put up your nose). Quiero Club sorta remind me of CSS mixed with early Chicks on Speed.

Quiero club website: http://www.yotambienquieroclub.com
Quiero club on myspace: http://myspace.com/quieroclub

Happy-Fi website: happyfi.com

The third video is by the Rapture's new song "Whoo! Alright Yeah... Uh Huh". It's so true, people don't dance no more...well at least not at your typical i'm-too-hip-for-your-mama parties. I must happily admit that my two parties Le One Night Stand and Nacotheque, people dance until the club kicks us out!
