*La brune et moi* - a play on the French
title for the American 50s rock 'n' roll film The Girl Can't Help It (La
blonde et moi) - was shot in one week, on a Saturday. Like it's American
counterpart, the story is a thin prop for the rockin' performances.
The film stars scenester Anoushka and actor Pierre Clementi (*The Conformist
*, *Belle de Jour*) and features the following bands on the soundtrack: Ici
Paris, Artefact, Astroflash, Edith Nylon, The Questions, The Party, Marquis
de Sade, Dogs, Go-Go Pigalles, Taxi Girl, Les Prives.

My darling friend Sheila B of Cha Cha Charming Magazine turned me onto this band from Japan called Kiiii about a year ago. Kiiii consists of two Japanese girlz, Utako Tayama (vox) and Reiko Tada (drums). Their music is a playful mush of sounds, bop-trot beats, and silly audio clips from cartoons. Singing things like "No more monkeys jumping on the bed" in their song, 4 Little Joy (remix) and "take me to the Disney Land" in their song, The World According To Corp. I've never seen them live, but from the songs I have heard and just for the fact that they are Japanese, I'm sure they will be ton's o fun live!

If you love Britpop and The Cure, you are bound to fall in LUV with Zoé. If you’re not familiar with these boys, think britpop, but britpop from Mexico. Sung in English and Spanish, which my friends over at NYREmezcla.com and I both agree that they could be one of the first rock en español bands to truly make the crossover into the "anglo" market.
Last time they were in New York, they put on an excellent show, and Nacotheque hosted the official after party for them at the all famous rock n' roll bar, Niagara, in the East Village. Memory Man (Zoé) guest DJed and everyone got super trashed while dancing all night!
Zoé's first show will be on Sunday, March 11th at D'Antigua and the second show will be on Monday, at SOB's where Nacotheque will be hosting the official after party at Luke and Leroy!!

Bol•ly•wood, n. [Humorous blend of the names of Bombay and Hollywood.]
1. The Indian film industry, based in Bombay; Bombay regarded as the base of this industry.
Bollywood is shorthand for the Hindi-language film industry centered in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India. It is the world's largest, yearly churning out hundreds of 3-hour musical epics that also drive South Asia's pop music industry. To the current generation of South Asian club-goers, Bollywood is synonymous with the 1970s golden age of masala films. This decade produced blockbusters like Don and Sholay (which still holds the record for most-viewed film ever made) not to mention "some of the fattest funk tunes that ever pimp-rolled their way down Music Street, Bombay."

I've been in search of a unique bicycle basket and I found one that I really hope will be available to order by April '07 (much thanx to OhJoy.blogs.com posting). Designed by Marie-Louise Gustafsson, this basket is made of hard plastic and comes in three colors, green, white, and was inspired by Swedish crochet tablecloths. It even has a name, CARRIE! Ugh, so cute! I think I'm going to keep my bike the color it is so the color that'll prolly look best is green or black for the basket.
Speaking of things that make me happy today, I am excited to tune into East Village Radio today (Sunday, March 4th) to listen to my friend Melody Nelson's DJ debut on East Village Radio from 4 to 6pm EST. This will hopefully be the first of a weekly show (final slot TBD). The show will be all french pop and she'll be spinning everything yé-yé, oldies, chanteuses, 70's party jams and classic 80's pop/rock. EVR is an internet radio station, so anyone in the world with a computer and an internet connection can listen to its live streaming. The show will be archived so if you miss it, you can always listen to it later!

Bonde do Role… With Lasers!
Hailing from Brazil, Bonde Do Role takes Bailefunk rhythms of their
homeland and mash them up, rapping in their native tongues. Not only
was the band was discovered by our favourite DJ, Diplo, who they’ll be
touring with in America this month, but they’re also doing some dates with
The Klaxons and CSS this spring. Recently signed to Domino Records,
Bonde Do Role will release their first international single “Solta O Frango”,
which literally translates as ‘Release The Chickens’, on March 19, 2007.
