You ever get that feeling of butterflies in your tummy when you're in Luv?
Yeah, so do I and I totally felt it this Monday afternoon when I heard California based band, Persephone's Bees!
Prince House Records Queen bee, Ann Lee, sent me an email today w/ their link and a little image of the band. Though, I had never heard them nor heard of them I clicked on the link (I trust Ann's opinion on music so duh, why wouldn't I click the link?). Right away the web page opens w/ their automatic player starting (I love when band sites have this feature), to the song "Nice Day". I automatically felt all light and fluffy inside. After a couple of listens I felt like I was listening to a female version of The Doors, don't ask me why (I became a fan of The Doors in 3rd grade and spent that whole year painting my friend's bedroom w/ peace signs, smiley faces, flowers, and suns!).
When singing in English, Angelina Moysov's (originally from Russia) accent sounds like a mix between a native French and Spanish speaker, and to me, it that's simply luvly. Moysov is inspired by gypsy folk, French pop, and British punk, more than enough to generating an international buzz no? I think yes!! OMG, and read this: When asked what her influences are, rather than listing favorite records, Angelina replied “Some books, films, smells, colors, interaction with people and my observations of the human condition.”
Their first self produced LP, “City of Love” was nominated for the best debut album at the California Music Awards in 2002. The word of mouth buzz caused by their live shows earned them a 2001 SF Weekly Award for Best Pop Band, and led them to share bills with Cake, BRMC, Jonathan Richman, and many others.
Their song "City of Love" appears in the 2005 film and soundtrack for "Bewitched". Their full length major label debut record "Notes from the Underworld" will be released by Columbia Records in 2006, which is already getting airplay on radio stations such as KCRW.
The two songs you must, must, must listen to are "Nice Day" and "City of Love"! After you hear them, let me know if you feel the same way - "Persephone's Bees are bringing the scent of fresh flowers through song." - AmyluInLuv
** Ps Bees are performing at Star Shoes in Los Angeles tonight, July 24th!

THIS MORNINGS MYSPACE COMMENT:)
This morning an indie record label from Puerto Rico, Rokirol Records, posted a comment on my myspace page. It was a music video by Los Pepiniyos called "Ding Dong". The song definitely sounds like pop punk, Ramones meets the Queers, and I love it! The video is super low budget which I also love, with the band members playing their instruments lookin' super cool in their leather jackets and spripped t-shirts. The song is about how the singer can't sleep at night cause he's dreaming of his love (the girl on the tv screen and hidding in the corner), ugh, puppy luv!! So cute and simple!

INCREIBLE!!...is all I can say to describe my past two days:) Wednesday was the CSS party at Sapphire, where I was the hostess and the djs of the night included: Greg B (Finger On The Pulse), Eamon Harkin (Calling All Kids), and Cansei De Ser Sexy!
Some of the girls from CSS spun a pretty funny, but cool mix of stuff including Gloria Estefan, Maria Daniela, Lushious Jackson, 80's classics, and some cool Brazilian soap opera songs! More party fotos here.
Thursday night was the big CSS show at Warsaw! Unfortunately, I missed Bonde Do Role:( I really wanted to see them perform live... Joanna and I got there right after CSS' first song and we pushed our way to the front and started to dance! They played all their songs except for Superafim, which I totally wanted to hear:/ They said they always play that song in Brazil and everyone goes nutz.
Love Foxxx was jumping around on stage during the whole show. Stripping out of her clothes, stage diving, pulling her shorts down and mooning the crowd, and pulling her hair extentions out of her real hair, haha! Greg and Darin were standing by the very front and when Lets Make Love From Death From Above they got to sing into the mic:) So much fun!
After the concert Diplo spun some stuff...yawn. Sorry, but I was bored. Greg, Darin, and I went upstairs to the dressing room to hang out w/ the band. We drank wine and beer while talking about cameras, music, art, and learned a couple of words in Portuguese (I can't remember them now)! The band was so cute!
At about 1:30am I called it quits and went home to Manhattan. I was super tired and needed to get some sleep. No matter, this weekend I'm sure I'll be able to get more sleep:) Last night and the night before totally ruled and I've got the pics to prove it! More show fotos here.

TUESDAY NIGHT'S, JUNE 27TH WASSUP ROCKERS SHOWCASE @ NACOTHEQUE...

During Rabia's performance everyone kept yelling "Quita la camiseta!" (Take of the shirt), to the bands front man, Jose, haha! I've never seen them live before but I'm guessing he usually takes off his shirt and looks really uhm, hot?! When En La Olla performed their song, Attack, which is sung in English and Polish, EVERYONE went wild and jumped around on each other and singing into the mic w/ the bassist, Remi, and the rest of the band!
Rabia gave a shout out to Wassup Rockers and the fans screamed out "Wassup!!!", haha! http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif We gave out Wassup Rockers t-shirts and pins to everyone and ran out in about 30 min!
After the bands Marcelo, Robert, and I djed and Rabia stuck around to dance w/ the Nacotheque fans:) It was a great night and I went home that night at 3am w/ my ear drums still ringing from the punk rock show earlier in the night. Pince pendejo, Tuesday night was so much fun! You can see more pics of the bands here.

Brookville, recently came into my radar by my friend Greg B. at Worlds Fair. He thought I might take a liking especially because their newest single, Nothing's Meant To Last, features Sabina from Brazilian Girls. As soon as I played the mp3 on my iTunes I was already in luv... Loungy and suave w/ fuzzy sounding drum beats, spacey piano and guitar drop ins, and something that sounds like water dropping from a long day of rain on some tropical island (in slow motion of course). Andy Chase's voice is super soft and calming, singing lyrics talking about taking a second to take a breath in and not rush things.
I watched the video (by the awesome Adam) where it starts off with Chase writing a love letter to Sabina in a postcard. I was automatically brought back to my days living in Madrid where I used to sit in my apartment by the window writing poetry (written in Spanish and English). I would write about my life, luv, pains of being in luv, and being far from him. The setting of the video reminds me of what I used to think of when reading the book, The Beach, by Alex Garland. Hazey dayz in an old summer hotel room w/ a typewriter and a gold pen (no computers, just old school hand written letter writing. Brilliant!). The cinematography is beautifully done w/ colors of warm reds, rich greens, soft creams, and antique golds. Close ups of their faces of sadness and longing for each other. Lots of eye close ups, so sigh.....dreamy:*)
You can download the song, Nothing's Meant To Last, here and you can see the video for it here. There's also a remix by Casettes Won't Listen, you can download here.
The whole album just came out June 13th on Unfilted Records so you can buy it now!
