FEELING MELLOW TODAY...

So today I woke up to a gloomy sky and a sore neck from swimming laps last night at the gym. I got to work and opened my email to find a fwd'd message from my friend Erika about an acoustic guitar duo from Mexico called Rodrigo y Gabriela. This info came from a GenArt newsletter...

Instead of death by radio this summer come alive with the rocking duo of Rodrigo y Gabriela (rodgab.com). who specialize in ear shaking acoustic guitar music. It's the type of sound that can get you atop your desk doing a naughty flamenco for the tech support boys. Whoo-hoo.

This real life couple (uh, duh - Rodrigo and Gabriela) met in Mexico while playing in a thrash metal band. Cute, no? Lately, the two have begun receiving critical acclaim for their passionate rhythms. Their new self-titled album was released just a short time ago and took Ireland (the couple's new hometown) and then Europe by storm. Yes, those living in the EU have questionable tastes (Robbie Williams anyone?), but this time the kids across the pond have gotten it right. Quintessentially summer, the album is a flame-up of Argentinean inspired tunes and amazingly poignant covers like Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven". While you may be turning up your nose at the idea of a foreign instrumental group, we suggest giving the duo a chance. Come on - they list Metallica as being among their key influences, so you know their acoustic stylings are more aggressive, fun and powerful then your standard folk singer. I really like their song Tamacun...listen here
